What Brand Is The Best And Most Reliable Central Heat And Air Conditioning System (not Window Unit)?

Having installed all the popular brands for 10+ years I would have to say that ” Bryant Evolution” TOPS my list. The user interface (Thermostat) is like a mini computer that interacts w/ the Furnace and Condenser enabling the service person to look at the Thermostat and gain Access to the Fault Codes and be able to tell Exactly what’s wrong with the system within 5 minutes. enabling you to save money. The system is 2 stage saving money on heating and better help you dehumidify your house in the cooling season.

There have been so many new designs from all of the manufacturers in an effort to meet the new SEER levels that it is hard to be sure which is currently the most reliable.
Some of the higher SEER designs are so complicated that they just beg to have problems.
I would not buy any unit right now without a full 10 year warranty.

As has been stated Trane is really the best, but Carrier and Lennox are also comparable.

It is hard to stop a TRANE. Had mine installed 5 years ago and have never had any problem with it.

I have had a trane for 13 years,,I have replaced the heat exchanger right after the warantee on it ran out! [big expence} after 10 years… relpaced the exhaust fan and motor and fan along with several other electrical components at different times…I have replaced the controll board 3 times {about 180.00 a pop!}…and now i am faced with replacing it again…Thats just my experience with Trane as a home owner…previous to my buying this trane i had a coleman which i had no problems with it just got old and i wanted to upgrade to a more energy effecient unit….if anyone has any suggestions to a better brand of unit please e mail me as i may have to purchase a whole new unit!

Sorry to hear about your bad luck with Trane. My guess is you just got a lemon, since I know they are a high-end heating and air manufacturer. As the admin, I am partial to Lennox and also Carrier. With all three you are paying a lot just for the name though. For an inexpensive, yet dependable HVAC system I also like Goodman. I am not too thrilled with Amana though, since they private label and use substandard parts. Furthermore, they aren’t able to help the homeowner very much since the local dealer puts his name on it. Crazy system.

You guys should look into the new Mayatag Line. We have installed 20 16 seer units with Veriable speed Furnaces and they are super queit and have not giving us any problems. We carry Alot of Lennox and Train/American Standard and they seem to fail every other month!! Mostly TXV or Leacks in the Coils. I would not install a Goodman on any home !!! Just Junk they all need SPP6 or a Hard start kit for the compresser. I thought the same thing Maytag please. Thats what the customer wanted and I was surpriseed how nice and queit and long lasting they have been.
